James the Just was a brother of Jesus. That would be a cousin. He was one of the early Christian leaders. For an account concerning the authority of various church leaders, see the Book of Acts, written by Luke. The account includes a clash between Paul and the other apostles. But, the clash was resolved.

I wonder who James the Just was. I'll bet this verse has a lot to do with why Thomas wasn't included in the NT canon.
