Almost missed this

Prosecutors dropped terrorism charges Tuesday against two Michigan men who were arrested after buying large numbers of cell phones, saying they could not prove a terrorism link.

Thanks to Left I on the news for catching this.

Media were making a big deal out of this, saying a long bridge was being specially patrolled, just in case.
But my first question was: what were these guys going to do with thousands of cell phones? Use them to trigger thousands of bombs on the bridge?
My immediate thought was that these guys were planning to sell the phones to drug dealers in Mexico or something.
Or, maybe they were doing something on behalf of some cell phone company. These speculations seemed far more plausible than terrorism.

If the two guys were white guys in business suits, I doubt they'd be prosecuted on terrorism.
